“Olvin has been the backbone of Onda for two years now. He was the president and carried us through a pandemic, and even now when his senior year is not what was expected, he shows up when we need him. He’s at lessons, he choreographs, he teaches lessons, and he is always there to offer advice.
Even beyond the pandemic, Olvin absolutely deserves the highest of praise. Whenever we are holding auditions, we show this video of him practicing before his audition freshman year and a video of him at NY International Salsa Congress looking and dancing like an absolute star. The growth is so indicative of how much Onda meant to him. He was on board for 3 years under a variety of roles- I was fortunate to be one of the two newbie classes he welcomed as Newbie Dad and then to be the secretary to his president. He has also choreographed some of the craziest, hardest, most fun pieces Onda has had in the past.
He became an INSANE dancer, choreographer, and friend. Onda is so incredibly lucky to have had him.”
“Olvin has been an incredible leader and mentor to the Latinx performing arts community. Through his incredible dedication to teaching and his commitment to equity both in the troupe and outside in the Philly community, Olvin is a role model to many and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to get to experience his generosity and leadership in Onda Latina. “
